Jon Stewart, longtime host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" made the surprise announcement to the audience at Tuesday's taping in New York that he’s leaving the program.

Stewart, 52, took over the nighttime news program in 1999 "The Daily
Show" has emerged as a leading voice for the American progressive
movement, and political figures from across the world,
including President Obama, have appeared on the show as guests.
Nearly as soon as the news emerged that he would leave
later this year, it seemed like the the entirety of the Twitter universe exploded in a
