Serayah McNeill may be on Fox’s biggest show, “Empire”, not to mention her coveted spot in Taylor Swift’s “girl squad”, but it wasn’t long ago that she was paying her dues folding jeans to make ends meet.
“I was going to community college and I had a job at H&M before ‘Empire’,” McNeill told The Post at Rachel Zoe’s Fashion Week presentation. “I was also acting, singing and doing a lot of auditions.”
McNeill plays the character of Tiana Brown, a rising R&B star who is also bisexual. “The directors and I talked about Lauryn Hill, Beyoncé, Rihanna — as far as performing, those were the influences,” she said of her character.
The 20-year-old was mostly coy about what to expect from Season 2 of the hit show, which debuts Sept. 23, and for which she’s been promoted to a series regular — but she did have this to say: “[It] is Season 1, times 10. I hope people get to learn more about Tiana and where she comes from, and why she is the way she is.”
