Erykah Badu was the host for Sunday night’s Soul Train Awards and as expected the legendary soul singer didn’t slack on her hosting duties. But perhaps one of the greatest highlights of the night had little to do with soul music. Instead, it had to do with Badu shading fading pop rapper Iggy Azalea.
During the early minutes of her hosting gig, Badu spoke about the ceremony’ss exclusive focus on soul music and joked that she’d banned rappers from the show. That’s when she pretended that she was getting a call from Iggy, who has been criticized by the rap community for appropriation, and blasted her with a hilarious joke.
“No, you can come! What you’re doing is definitely not rap,” Badu said in her pretend phone conversation with Iggy.
