President Goodluck Jonathan, on Friday, hosted the president-elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, four days after conceding defeat in Saturday’s presidential election.
The meeting, which was unannounced, was held behind closed doors.
It would be the first time both men were seeing themselves physically after the election.
President Jonathan had called Buhari before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner of the election to concede defeat and congratulate him.
Meanwhile, President Jonathan attended the Good Friday service at the Aso Villa Chapel, Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday, promising to speak on the just concluded election at the right time.
He made the promise after State House correspondents asked for his thoughts on the aftermath of last week’s elections and the mood in the country.
He said he would speak on his experience in office and other issues at the appropriate time.
“Don’t worry, I will talk to you at the appropriate time,” the president said with a smile as he walked away from the chapel to his residence.
All those selected to give exhortations at the service commended the sacrifice made by President Jonathan to preserve the unity of the country.
The service, which lasted for about three hours, witnessed rendition of special hymns as well as prayers for the president and for the peace of the country.
The various speakers at the service likened Jonathan’s decision to concede defeat to the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ to save mankind.
They praised the president for his courage to conduct the election and accept the outcome gracefully, urging him to remain focused.
“This man (Jonathan) said here that he was the most criticised president and he prophesied that by the time he would be leaving, he would be the most celebrated president. That has come to pass with the way he is being celebrated worldwide for conceding defeat,” one of the preachers said.
