Barack Obama: ‘America Should Be Proud’ After Same-Sex Marriage Legalized


The Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples have a Constitutional right to get married in any state in the country! President Barack Obama joined in the crowds celebrating this decision, giving a supportive speech where he said that today, ‘America should be proud.’
June 26 will go down as a historic day for marriage equality! The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that states can no longer deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples, meaning that same-sex marriage is the law of the land! President Barack Obama showed his support for the decision and same-sex couples everywhere in a powerful speech, calling the ruling “gratifying” and a “victory.”

President Obama issued a statement about landmark decision shortly after it was released to the public. The President said that “justice came like a thunderbolt,” and that the June 26 ruling “strengthens equality” in the country that calls itself the “Land of the Free.”

“It is gratifying,” Barack said. Though the US president said that there was still much more work let to extend equality to all of the American people, he did remark that “today, we can say we made our union a little more perfect.” The president ended the speech saying that on this day, “America should be proud.”

Even before Barack spoke about the decision, he let the world know his feelings, tweeting out a message of support for the ruling. Calling it a “big step in our march towards equality,” Obama recognized the significance of today’s decision, adding a #LoveWins tag at the end of this tweet
