The fire department tweeted: "1 small aircraft down on Penmar Golf Course near the Santa Monica airport. Solo occupant, an adult male being transported to local hospital in critical condition. No other injuries."
LA Police Department spokeswoman Officer Nuria Vanegas said: "The incident was reported at 2:25pm, it was mechanical failure of the plane, that's what caused the accident."
Ford, best known for his roles in such blockbuster films as Star Wars and Raiders Of The Lost Ark, is a longtime aviation enthusiast.
This isn’t the first time Ford, a longtime aviator, has crashed an aircraft. Back in October 1999, the actor crashed a helicopter while flying over Lake Piru in Ventura County, California. He was on a training flight with an instructor when the smashed the helicopter into the ground. Thankfully, in that instance, Ford and the instructor pilot did not suffer any injuries. The helicopter, however, was smashed.
