PDP National Chairman Muazu Resigns And Deputy Uche Secondus Takes Over

The embattled National Chairman of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Muazu, has resigned and Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, has taken over the position. His resignation comes after weeks of intense pressure from party leaders, stakeholders and supporters of the party led by Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, who accused him of anti-party activities.

There have been conflicting reports on why Muazu resigned, while some say he resigned because of the party’s performance at the last general elections, others say he resigned on health grounds.

The National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh said the Muazu resigned based on health grounds ,“I can confirm that we have received the resignation of the National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu. I can confirm that the chairman, who had health challenges, stayed on for the primaries, for the campaigns and the elections and after consultations with his family, and in his personal interest, he had decided to resign.

“This party commends him for his services to the party and for his love for the nation. We wish him well. We will not forget him. In line with the constitution, the  Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, has taken charge of the affairs of the party as acting national chairman of the party. The constitution does not recognise a vacuum.”

In a different story carried by the Vanguard Newspaper, the Chairman of the party was said to have resigned because of the dismay performance of the party at the last general elections. In a letter he addressed to the Party’s Deputy National Chairman, Uche Secondus, he asked him to take charge of the party’s activities in acting capacity in line with the party’s constitution.
